Registered Nurse (Gastroenterology Clinic)

The GI Clinic is directly responsible to the Endoscopy Nurse Manager.
The RN is responsible and accountable for the provision of direct patient care and for the delivery of quality nursing care to a culturally diverse Veteran patient population in the GI Clinic setting.
The RN possesses the knowledge and skills to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting, which will enable effective implementation of health promotion and prevention practices, management of acute and chronic mental illnesses, and attainment of optimal levels of functioning and/or support of the significant others.
Role responsibilities and accountabilities also include demonstration of knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the population related needs of patients served in the assigned area of practice.
This knowledge includes understanding changes associated with aging and special populations, i.
e.
, OIF/OEF, Vietnam, Desert Shield / Storm, Korean, WWII, Iraq, etc.
The Gastroenterology RN possesses the competence, knowledge, and skills necessary to provide mental hygiene care appropriate to the population specific needs of Veterans served in the assigned area of practice.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
1.
Demonstrates knowledge to assess, perform and appropriately care for patients in a fast paced environment.
2.
Collaborates with the providers to ensure appropriate care and services for the optimum health care outcomes.
3.
Coordination of patient and family care to include education to mitigate knowledge deficits, and barrier to learning.
4.
Familiarity with appropriate specimen collection, Laboratory results, critical values/parameters and follow up protocols in collaboration with providers.
5.
Utilization of the nursing process, administration of medications as governed by MCM 118-2, SBAR (hand-off communication), implementation of necessary treatments and procedures in collaboration with attending provider, education of patients and families.
6.
Accurately verifying and validating provider's orders.
7.
Safely completing all nursing care procedures and accurately documenting the completion of procedures and the patient's responses.
8.
Possess a firm working knowledge of treatment, care, evidence based nursing/medical protocols and management of GI/Endoscopy Procedures.
9.
Participates in established quality improvement studies and/or activities.
In addition, the Gastroenterology Clinic RN is accountable and responsible for possessing the knowledge and skills to:
1.
Communicate and interact appropriately and courteously with all internal and external customers.
2.
Maintain confidentiality of electronic, written, and/or verbal patient/employee information.
3.
Demonstrate working practices that include adherence to Infection Control standards as well as the safe use and operation of equipment.
Work Schedule:
Shift, weekend, and holiday rotation is required.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
