Supervisory Veterans Experience Advocate

Receives and resolves complaints from customers. Aides patients in understanding their rights and responsibilities, teaches patients about facility policy and procedures. Identifies existing and potential program improvements, and suggests solutions or alternatives to existing procedures. Plans and assigns work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work. Effects minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands, recommending other action in more serious cases. Utilizes data streams (Veteran Signals, PATS) to evaluate need for improvements across the healthcare system. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-9. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. Specialized
Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-09 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting and adjusting short-term priorities, and preparing schedules for completion of work; utilizing the Patient Advocate Tracking System to document patient issues or concerns; advising leadership on patient representative program improvements; suggesting solutions or alternatives to existing procedures; preventing and resolving complaints/concerns from patients and family members of patients. OR, Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have a Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position. Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Physical Requirements:
A high level of physical energy is required, as the incumbent will be expected to meet with many people in many different locations in the course of a workday. The incumbent will have an office within the VAMC. However, it is expected that a major portion of the services provided will be conducted away from the office, in the office of other agencies, and in Non-Traditional settings. The nature of the job requires travel throughout an assigned geographical area away from the work setting. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
